Stadium:
Louisiana Superdome
The Superdome sustained $185.4 million in damage and the New Orleans Saints played their 2005 home games in San Antonio at the Alamodome and in Baton Rouge at Tiger Stadium. In January 2006 work began to clean up and renovate the Superdome. Nearly 4,000 tons of trash and debris was removed, along with 1.6 million square feet of wrecked carpeting, 650,000 square feet of wall board and 500,000 square feet of ceiling tiles. About 70,000 seats were cleaned as crews have been repairing the roof. The 30 year old stadium’s three-level seating plan will be the same, with the most noticeable difference being a thin video board, called a ribbon board, replacing the facade of the upper deck. Scoreboard video screens behind each end zone will be enlarged. The New Orleans Saints played their first game in the city since 2004 on September 24, 2006 against the Atlanta Falcons.

Season Preview:

The stage is set for the Saints to try and begin taking that final step toward what they hope is the franchise's first trip to the Super Bowl. Second-year coach Sean Payton put the wraps on 2 1/2 months of off-season training on June 14 when his team completed its 12th and final Organized Team Activity of the summer. He then turned his players loose for 40 days of rest and relaxation before they report to training camp July 25 with the start of practice the next day. While no official announcement has been made, the Saints are expected to train for the second straight year at Millsaps College n Jackson, Miss. "I think the most important thing is to stay in shape from a cardiovascular standpoint, a running standpoint," Payton said after sending his players on their way with a message to stay in shape. Like last year's rugged camp, this year's stay in Jackson will start with a conditioning test to make sure they stay at the fitness level they were at when they left the team's Metairie training facility. That's important because the temperatures in Jackson get into the upper 90s with heat indexes routinely topping out at 110 to 115 degrees. "There will be a running test when they get to training camp, the same conditioning test we had a year ago," Payton said. "There will be weigh-ins. "I think these guys are smart enough to understand from a strength and conditioning standpoint where they've come, and they're going to have to continue that. You can lose that in four weeks, or five weeks, if you're not careful." Some players will work with a personal trainer, others will work out on their own, some will work with other college or NFL players as they try to stay ready for the rigors of camp and a five-month season after that. Payton said he expects his players to stay on top of that in the coming weeks. "Part of finding the right guys here is understanding there's a trust level when they're away from the building -- that they're going to do what you want them to do -- and I think we've got the right guys here."
