Talks of disgruntled Dolphins quarterback Daunte Culpepper landing in Jacksonville continued to circulate through the Jaguars facility last week, with varying reports and comments on a daily basis. A report from the previous weekend said the Jaguars had informed the team's three quarterbacks -- starter Byron Leftwich and back-ups David Garrard and Quinn Gray -- that the team would enter into discussions with Culpepper about acquiring him once he was released from the Dolphins. Those reports were substantiated by Garrard on Wednesday, when he told reporters he and Gray were informed by offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter that the Jaguars were interested in the former Minnesota Vikings quarterback. Leftwich declined to confirm or deny what was said in what he called a private conversation between him and the coaching staff. "I was told we have to bring him in to look at him," Garrard said. "He has a good relationship with (assistant head coach) Mike Tice from their days together in Minnesota. They said it was nothing against me or the others, but that it was something they felt they had to look into to help make the team stronger. Garrard added, "If I'm the owner and I can get somebody cheap like that, it'd be dumb (not to consider it)." Leftwich agreed with that thought process, saying it would be a good business decision to at least look at bringing in someone with Culpepper's background and skills. "Any time you have a quarterback the caliber of Daunte Culpepper, any time you can add a guy to your roster of that caliber, as an organization it's smart to look into that," Leftwich said. "Especially with me having one year left on my contract. That's not a bad business move if you were to look at it from that point. I have no problems with it, no problems whatsoever. Sportsline.com
