Stadium:
Lucas Oil Stadium
The Indianapolis Colts first game at the RCA Dome was on September 2, 1984. The RCA Dome is very similar to the Metrodome in Minneapolis. The roof of the stadium consists of Teflon coated fiberglass. Two tiers of 60,000 seats circle the entire Astroturf playing field. In 1994, RCA bought the naming rights to the stadium, thus it was renamed the RCA Dome. The RCA Dome was not built primarily for football, but for conventions and trade shows. Other than being the home of the Colts, the RCA Dome hosts concerts, large banquets, religious assemblies, and various sporting events including the NCAA Final Four. In December 2004, the Colts announced plans to build a new stadium in downtown Indianapolis. Lucas Oil Stadium is scheduled to open in 2008. After the 2004 season, the Colts announced that they would become one of the final teams to install Fieldturf and remove the Astroturf playing field.

The ring is the thing. That's how the Indianapolis Colts -- both current and former players -- felt about the awarding of rings to the champions of Super Bowl XLI last week. In a private dinner and party held in downtown Indianapolis -- which was highlighted by the return of ex-Colts Cato June (Tampa Bay), Nick Harper (Tennessee), and Dominic Rhodes (Oakland) -- the team was finally able to get their hands on a little bit of well-earned bling. "It's great," admitted wide receiver Reggie Wayne. "I normally hear diamonds are a woman's best friend, but (at the ring presentation ceremony), it's a man's best friend. I feel like a new man. This has been a childhood dream, and I'm just enjoying it." The rings, which were produced by Indianapolis-based Herff Jones Company, feature 50 diamonds, a synthetic blue sapphire horseshoe, the word "Faith" on one side, and the phrase "Our Time" on the opposite side. "Our Time" was the Colts' theme as they headed into the playoffs, which culminated Feb. 4 in Miami with a 29-17 victory over the Chicago Bears in Super Bowl XLI. Team owner Jim Irsay said he wanted the word "faith" because it represented the religious feelings of the team and the tragedies the Colts overcame, such as the suicide of Tony Dungy's son and the traffic accident that killed Reggie Wayne's older brother. "Faith gives you the strength to have the perseverance to move forward even after many disappointments," he explained. There is also is a dot of red enamel found on each of the players' rings, forming one rivet in a small horseshoe. The red symbolizes a drop of blood, emblematic of players "leaving it all on the field," according to team officials. Sportsline.com
