Since the federal authorities opened their own investigation into possible dog fighting and animal cruelty at a property owned by quarterback Michael Vick, things have been relatively quiet. With the storm temporarily subsiding, the Falcons were able to wrap up their organized team activities and put a renewed focus back on the field. The biggest change for the team under Bobby Petrino has been the revamping on the offensive line. He is dumping the Alex Gibbs-styled cut blocking approach for a power blocking scheme. "They've done a nice job of really working on getting bigger and stronger," Petrino said. "We brought some guys in here who are a little bigger and stronger. I think they like the offense, the ability to utilize different blocks. They've done a really nice job of working on the techniques that coach (Mike) Summers is teaching them." The Falcons are lining up with Wayne Gandy at left tackle, rookie Justin Blalock at left guard, Todd McClure at Center, Kynan Forney at right guard and Todd Weiner at right tackle. "We've got a ways to go," Petrino said. "We have to keep improving. I'll tell you one thing about this team, they are really willing to work. The attitude has been great throughout the off-season." Summers, a longtime college coach, has never coached an NFL line. "I've been excited with our progress," Summers said. "We have a long way to go to be the physically dominating unit that I want it to be. We've got attitude and character in that group that will get us to that point." Sportsline.com
