Stadium: Sommet Center
Sommet Center is owned by the Sports Authority of Nashville and Davidson County and operated by Powers Management Company, a subsidiary of the Nashville Predators National Hockey League franchise, which has been its primary tenant since 1998. In 1997, it was the host venue of the United States Figure Skating Association national championships, and in 2004 hosted the U.S. Gymnastics championships. It was the home of the Nashville Kats franchise of the Arena Football League from 1997 until 2001, and has hosted the team's revival since 2005. The venue has also hosted numerous concerts and religious gatherings, and some major basketball events, including both men's (2001, 2006, 2010) and women's tournaments of the Southeastern Conference and the Ohio Valley Conference. In odd-numbered years, The arena was regularly one of eight sites to host the first and second rounds of the men's NCAA Basketball Tournament for the first ten years of its existence, though it has been taken out of the rotation through at least 2011, partly due to its octagonal mid-1990s-style scoreboard, which is obsolete by today's standards (it is scheduled to be replaced by a new $5 million scoreboard and digital control room in summer 2007).

Team History:
The team was named after the fossil skull of a saber-toothed cat—a species extinct for at least 10,000 years—that was found in August 1971, in a cave during the excavation for the AmSouth Center in downtown Nashville. The fossil is only the fifth of its kind found in North America.
When awarded a franchise, the Predators got a very lucrative deal. The city of Nashville paid 31.50% of the $80-million fee to join the league. The city also absorbs operating losses from the arena, despite the fact that the Sommet Center is operated by a subsidiary of the team.
Season Preview:
While the Anaheim Ducks are the sexy pick to represent the Western Conference in the 2007 Stanley Cup finals, the Nashville Predators are the thinking man's pick. Slowly, quietly, GM David Poile has built a deep, powerful squad in the Music City. Never mind last year's first-round exit versus San Jose -- the Predators were without No. 1 netminder Tomas Vokoun, whose season was cut short with a mysterious blood clotting condition. Vokoun has enjoyed a complete recovery and the Predators have made key additions in the form of Jason Arnott, Josef Vasicek and J.P. Dumont that should give them a potent offense to go along with a deep blue line. Perhaps the most troubling question dogging the Predators is whether enough people, especially people with money, will care as the team makes its first serious bid for a Stanley Cup.
