Stadium: RBC Center
The RBC Center (originally the Raleigh Entertainment and Sports Arena) is an indoor arena located in Raleigh, North Carolina. It is home to the Carolina Hurricanes of the NHL and the North Carolina State University Wolfpack men's basketball team of NCAA Division I. The arena also hosted the Carolina Cobras of the Arena Football League from 2000 to 2002. The arena neighbors Carter-Finley Stadium, home of Wolfpack Football; the North Carolina State Fairgrounds; and Dorton Arena (on the Fairgrounds).
The arena seats 19,722 for basketball or 18,730 for ice hockey, including 75 luxury suites and 2,000 club seats. The building has three concourses, and includes a 500-seat restaurant. It is the second largest arena in the ACC and the tenth-largest in the NCAA.

Team History:
The New England Whalers were born in November 1971 when the World Hockey Association awarded a franchise to begin play in Boston, Massachusetts. For the first two-and-a-half years of their existence, the club played their home games at the Boston Arena, Boston Garden, and The Big E Coliseum in West Springfield. However, sagging attendance forced the team to Connecticut. On January 11, 1975, the team played its first game in front of a sellout crowd at the Hartford Civic Center Coliseum. With the exception of a period in the late 1970s when the Whalers played at the Springfield Civic Center while their Hartford home was being renovated (due to a portion of the roof collapsing after a blizzard), the franchise was largely located in Hartford..
As one of the most stable WHA teams, the Whalers, along with the Edmonton Oilers, Quebec Nordiques, and Winnipeg Jets, were admitted to the NHL when the rival leagues merged in 1979. Because the NHL already had a team in the New England area, the Boston Bruins, the former WHA team was renamed the Hartford Whalers. Unfortunately, the team was never as successful in the NHL as they had been in the WHA, recording only three winning seasons.
Season Preview:
The Hurricanes weren't just whistlin' Dixie as they defied critics across the hockey universe in capturing their first Stanley Cup championship. This franchise and its loyal, rabid fan base erased any doubt (at least for the time being) about whether the game belongs in the South with a magical run that featured a wildly exciting style of play and a never-say-die mentality. In the wake of this unprecedented, unexpected success, general manager Jim Rutherford had to make difficult decisions in trying to ice a repeat champion, allowing Martin Gerber, Doug Weight, Mark Recchi, Aaron Ward and Matt Cullen to depart from the championship roster. As he did a year ago, Rutherford hasn't dallied much in the free-agent market, but with a stellar core of veterans and rising young stars, Carolina will post a spirited defense.
